                        John W. Tilton, DDS – VP Professional Review/Dental Director, Delta Dental of Kansas

This presentation will discuss the effect various systemic health issues have on oral health, as well as insight into the cost of dental insurance; the various types of insurance available; and who uses dental insurance, and why some don’t.  The challenge for the future is education and overcoming the obstacles for dental wellness.


10 am             The Economics of a Productive Workplace

                        Michele Barns - Sales Executive, New Directions

Our speaker will present the business case for caring for your employees.  What are the costs of untreated behavioral health issues?  There are hard dollar costs, such as added claims, and soft dollar costs, such as productivity.  She will provide ideas for employee assistance programs that can make a difference.


11 am             FSAs, HRAs and HSAs: Account-Based Plans – Present and Future

                        William Short, CEO, Ameriflex

What are account-based plans?  Our speaker will discuss the pros and cons of these plans — flexible spending arrangements, health reimbursement arrangements, and health savings accounts.  Is there a future for these plans?


12 pm             Legal and Ethical Considerations Facing Insurance Industry

                        Randal L. Schultz, attorney with Lathrop & Gage, LLP

The speaker will discuss legal and ethical implications of decisions to be faced by insurance professionals and their clients, various plan design strategies being considered by employers and their insurance professionals and the timing of decisions relating to those strategies with respect to the Affordable Care Act.
