    The City of Overland Park has a full-time Benefits Officer position available in the Human Resources Department.

    Responsibilities:  

    Responsible for analyzing, administering, and communicating all aspects of employee benefit plans (i.e., health, dental, vision, life, long-term care, long and short-term disability, critical illness, employee wellness program, strategy and oversight of onsite clinic, employee assistance program, and Section 125 plans), which includes conducting new hire orientations; day-to-day administration; handling inquiries about eligibility, changes, enrollments, and benefit plan interpretation; coordinating the benefit renewal process including all activities associated with an annual open enrollment. Ensures employee benefits are administered in accordance with plan documents, SPDs, vendor contracts, and internal policies, as well as, remain in compliance with all federal and state legal requirements.

    Normal Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Mon. - Fri.

    Experience:

    Five to eight years of human resources/benefits or administrative experience with preference given for experience specifically in benefits, wellness, and onsite clinics.

    Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, physical exam.

    Knowledge of state and federal guidelines pertaining to benefits, wellness programs, and onsite clinics.
    Certification as a benefit professional is preferred.

    Advancement toward Certified Employee Benefits Specialist or Certified Benefits Professional is desirable.
    No City residency requirement.

    Education Level:

    Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of formal education and work experience is required.

    -Work closely with the producer to manage client expectations, servicing needs, lead the renewal process and ensure tasks are completed according to service timelines for assigned book.
    -Develop core competencies of Client Management by working with assigned Account Executive mentor.
    -Ensure essential tasks are completed for Account Executives at appropriate times in the service cycle.

    -Work in conjunction with the Director of Compliance to ensure clients are aware of local, state and federal compliance regulations and quality control guidelines.
    -Inform Producer/Account Executive of situations that could impact account retention and/or client satisfaction.
    -Maintain updated knowledge regarding legislative or industry changes that could impact the organization or its clients.

    A Day in the Life of a Customer Service Representative:

    Key Responsibilities:


    • Answering a high volume of inbound phone calls, providing accurate information about dental insurance benefits and claims.  
    • Listening attentively and asking questions to further determine the needs, requests, or concerns of subscribers and dental offices.
    • Thoroughly documenting calls to include contact information, nature of the call, and resolution provided.
    • Utilizing multiple resources to research and resolve any issues related to the inquiry and providing a follow-up response.
    • Assisting with claims processing, including but not limited to, entry of claims, approving substantiated claims, denying claims for lack of improper documentation, processing suspension of debit cards, requesting information from customers, activating debit cards, sending out refund requests, quarterly statements, and other communication as needed.
    • Answering calls or written inquiries regarding pre-tax spending accounts, such as health and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Health Savings Accounts (HSA), Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA) and other employee benefits (vision, COBRA, etc).
    • Exhibiting a positive, professional demeanor and tact throughout all calls.
    • Consistently adhering to all customer service performance metrics, such as call documentation, quality and accuracy of information provided, etc.

    Position Type:  Full Time - Customer Service Representative Job Posting: $17.00 - $22.50 per hour

    Experience: 1- 3 years

    • Two years of experience in a high-volume customer service setting.
    • Previous experience in healthcare/dental field, benefits claims, or consumer driven health plans is preferred.
    • Those with experience in the dental industry or working in a high-volume call processing role will be given first preference.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, structured call center setting.
    • Ability to work extended hours (if needed) during peak season to accommodate the higher call volume to maintain our service excellence. Peak season is generally from the end of November into February each year.
    • Ability to utilize various technology platforms for effective communication, problem solving, and relaying information to constituents.
    • Ability to understand and become knowledgeable of Release of Information policies and procedures and HIPAA regulations, completing work in compliance of these and other standards.
    • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and virtual communication applications such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.
    • Ability to quickly adapt and learn new technologies as they are implemented in the workplace.
    • Must have a quiet and confidential workspace and be able to secure a backup, quiet and confidential alternative workspace in the event of a power or internet outage at your primary residence.

    A Day in the Life of a Claims Processor:

    • Adjudicating claims according to policy and contract requirements. You may need to request additional information as necessary by completing claim adjustments, referencing the benefits policy manual and other resources provided.
    • Additional information may be requested by making phone calls, sending emails, or generating letters to our constituents.
