    Position Description:

    We are seeking in either our Kansas City or Minneapolis office an Employer Stop Loss Assistant Underwriter who will be responsible for prioritizing and completing requests for proposals, analyzing and pre-underwriting new and renewal business for our Employer Stop Loss product. The position is responsible for producing a profitable book of business working through select brokers, consultants and reinsurance intermediaries.

    About this job:

    Review underwriting information, develop rates and terms for Employer Stop Loss accounts based upon underwriting rules, guidelines, pricing methodologies and account specific date
    Interact with brokers, consultants and reinsurance intermediaries as necessary
    Compose, prepare and generate correspondence, proposals and statistical reports as required
    Provide management reports and maintain key data systems as required
    Responsible for all aspects of account management and producer relationships to maximize profitability and meet service standards
    Works closely with AVP Employer Stop Loss, Underwriters, PULSE and Claim Examiners, to meet required deadlines, business objectives, and client service standards
    Review, finalize and issue Policies and Amendments
    Assists with maintaining and updating underwriting manuals as needed

    Position Type:  Full Time

    Experience:

    Proficiency with Microsoft office with focus on Excel, Word and Access and knowledge of PowerPoint
    Ability to manage competing priorities and to operate without close supervision during high volume, high demand cycles of the business
    Superior oral and written communication, negotiation and analytical skills
    Ability to think strategically, effectively assess risk and make solid data-driven decisions
    Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent is required
    Previous health reinsurance underwriting experience is a plus
    Experience working in matrix organizations an asset
    Working on virtual teams preferred

    Education Level:  Minimum of Bachelor's Degree or equivalent is required

    1.Tailor policies and certificates according to each policyholder’s plan design for all KCL Group Benefits products including Dental, Life, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Vision and Voluntary products while adhering to state insurance department rules

    2.Build each new policyholder's plan design, policy provisions, enrollment and agent commission information on the LINK administrative billing system to generate the initial billing statements

    3.Prepare policy amendments and make subsequent changes to employee policy certificates for existing policyholders while complying with current state insurance department regulations

    4.Respond to Group broker inquiries related to commissions, resolve broker problems and process broker of record changes

    5.Coordinate Group broker contracting with Agency Administration; analyze contracting applications for completeness; maintain and update Group agent and agency records to ensure Group systems match Agency Administration online databases

    6.Review and approve new sold business for True Group Dental and all small group Go2products by following established underwriting guidelines

    7. Assume special projects including preparing and maintaining Contract Issue guidelines and department training manuals.

    Position Type: Full-Time

    Experience:  At least 3 years Group ancillary insurance experience.  12 - 24 months of policy issue/insurance contract experience preferred.

    • Microsoft Word and Excel experience required

    Responsibilities
    The Account Manager maintains relationships with the client decision-maker(s) and has responsibility for their assigned accounts and is expected to manage a book of business. Expected to own the service of accounts and manage the book of business and effectively communicate with the broker on the account. 
    ● Services designated book of business as relating to marketing, claims and administration.
    ● Investigates and answers client inquiries regarding benefit coverage.
    ● Supports implementation or transition of new or existing lines of coverage by assisting on setting up accounts, collecting needed documentation, and reviewing plan details with the client and appropriate carrier.
    ● Gathers information from clients to use in underwriting or plan renewal information.
    ● Compile relevant information to distribute Request for Proposals (RFP) to carriers.
    ● Analyzes quotes from carriers to determine appropriate recommendations for clients.
    ● Negotiations coverage and services that matches client needs 
    ● Analyzes options that best suit the client's needs.
    ● Advises clients of their benefit plan options and rates to collaboratively develop client strategy for coverage.
    ● Administers employee communication of any updates or changes to their benefit offerings for open enrollment.
    ● Educate employees through possible open enrollment meetings.
    ● Educate employers how to offer benefits to new hired employees, how to process a qualifying life event, and administer cobra administration. 
    ● Assists brokers on marketing strategies and development of long-term strategy for client renewals or new client prospects. 
    ● Resolves issue with carriers regarding claims of clients’ employees, billing, and eligibility. 
    ● Informs and educates clients on updated compliance or legislative processes.
    ● Create or update compliant benefit notices, POP document, plan documents for clients.
    ● Monitor and update data in EASE enrollment platform.
    ● Update and maintain information in Agency Bloc pertaining to specific accounts.
    ● Assesses and interprets claims experience for the client.
    ● Manage full account duties for accounts that may not have a broker.

    • Renewal quoting as directed by account management and sales teams
    • Provide back-up as needed for account management team (PTO)
    • Process group employee additions and terminations
    • Produce and distribute SBCs and other plan information
    • Miscellaneous duties and tasks as directed by account management and sales teams
