He argues that, as employer healthcare costs rise, brokers need to look beyond annual renewals and evaluate care models for long-term value. He highlights underinvestment in primary care as a contributor to delayed treatment and higher downstream costs. Dan compares traditional primary care—with large patient panels and short visits—to Direct Primary Care (DPC), which offers smaller panels and longer, relationship-focused visits but requires upfront fees.

The takeaway is to assess care models using a scorecard for access, engagement, scope, data, implementation, and fit—while balancing patient and provider experience, affordability, and scalability.
